KYIV: At least one person was killed and nine others injured after Russian ballistic missiles struck Kyiv and the surrounding region early Sunday, Ukrainian officials said.
The attack triggered fires in residential buildings, a supermarket and other facilities across the Ukrainian capital as air raid sirens sounded throughout the city.
Emergency services responded to multiple locations affected by the strikes, with authorities assessing the extent of the damage.
The attack came amid continued Russian missile and drone strikes on Ukrainian cities, as the war between Moscow and Kyiv continues into its third year.
Ukrainian officials said further details about the casualties and damage assessment would be released as rescue operations continued.
