Pakistan’s top civil and military leadership has agreed on a unified policy to safeguard the country’s security and economy amid the ongoing Iran war and its regional fallout.

The decision was made during a high-level meeting chaired by President Asif Ali Zardari at Aiwan-e-Sadr, attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Field Marshal Asim Munir, and senior cabinet members.

The meeting reviewed the impact of global oil supply disruptions and rising fuel prices on Pakistan’s economy, with a focus on controlling inflation and ensuring energy security. Officials briefed participants on steps to stabilise petroleum prices and maintain fiscal discipline through austerity measures.

Participants stressed the need for a coordinated national response, highlighting that economic management, energy planning, food security, and overall security must remain aligned to tackle emerging challenges.

The leadership also emphasised promoting public awareness to reduce fuel consumption, encouraging the use of public transport and shared mobility to ease pressure on resources.

The broader regional situation, including the risk of spillover from the Iran conflict, was discussed as a key concern for Pakistan’s stability.

Officials further noted that Pakistan is actively engaged in diplomatic efforts to ease tensions between the United States and Iran, reinforcing its role in regional de-escalation.
