Pakistan Navy provided humanitarian assistance to the crew of MV Gautam. The Indian offshore tug and supply vessel became stranded in the Arabian Sea. The ship sailed from Oman toward India, as it suffered a critical technical fault. Seven crew members were on board. Six were Indian nationals. One was Indonesian. The vessel lost essential systems and could not continue its journey.

Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre in Mumbai sent a distress call. Pakistani authorities received the request. Pakistan Navy coordinated with Pakistan Maritime Security Agency and the agency deployed PMSS Kashmir. The ship reached the location. Crew members received food supplies. They received medical checks and aid. They received technical assistance to restore key systems. Support operations for the vessel continued. This brief and to the point action took place on May 4 2026.

Security sources confirmed the information, as Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) issued an official statement on May 5 2026. The statement asserted that Pakistan Navy acted with vigilance. It fulfilled international maritime obligations. Indian newspapers including The Hindu and Indian Express carried the news. They noted the coordination between Mumbai MRCC and Pakistani authorities.

This case forms part of a longer record. Pakistan Navy has responded to many distress calls in the Arabian Sea. The sea carries heavy commercial traffic. Pakistan maintains patrols in the area. It keeps ships ready for search and rescue work.

In April 2026 Pakistan Navy carried out another major operation. It received a distress call from MV Gold Autumn. The merchant vessel operated 200 nautical miles off the Pakistan coast in the North Arabian Sea. Eighteen crew members were on board. They came from China, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Vietnam and Indonesia. PNS Hunain responded quickly. The ship provided medical aid. It assisted with firefighting efforts. It performed damage assessment. It evacuated all 18 crew members safely. The navy brought them to Karachi for further care and repatriation.

Pakistan Navy has also helped vessels under other flags. It has assisted Iranian fishing boats in distress. It has responded to calls from merchant ships of many nations. Each time the procedure follows the same steps. Authorities receive the call through official channels. Ships deploy without delay. Teams deliver supplies and support. Crew members receive safety measures.

One notable case took place in June 2011. Pakistan Navy launched Operation Umeed-e-Nuh. The operation assisted MV Suez. Somali pirates had held the Panama-flagged vessel for nearly ten months. They released the ship in mid-June 2011. The vessel carried 22 crew members. Six were Indian nationals. Others were Egyptian, Pakistani and Sri Lankan. Pakistan Navy ships PNS Babur and PNS Zulfiqar responded swiftly to them. They operated in the Gulf of Aden at the time. PNS Babur transferred special forces teams. It delivered medical supplies and food. It provided initial assistance. Pirates attempted to re-approach the vessel. Naval teams fired warning shots and drove the threats away. Later the crew requested full evacuation. Rough weather made towing difficult. Pakistan Navy completed the transfer of all 22 crew members. The ships brought them safely to Karachi. The crew received care before they returned to their home countries. The operation showed coordination over long distances as it combined security measures with humanitarian support.

Pakistan Navy has assisted Indian crew members on several other occasions. In one case it helped stranded Indian fishermen. The fishing vessel had remained adrift for eight days. Pakistan Navy ships provided technical aid. They supplied food and water. They ensured safe return. Similar actions have occurred with other fishing boats and merchant vessels in the region.

The Arabian Sea forms one of the busiest maritime routes in the world. Oil tankers pass through it. Cargo ships carry goods. Fishing fleets operate daily. Pakistan Navy patrols these waters as part of its regular duties. It participates in international exercises. It trains crews for humanitarian assistance and disaster relief missions. These preparations allow fast responses when calls arrive.

Pakistan maintains membership in key maritime agreements. It follows the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. It adheres to International Maritime Organization search-and-rescue rules. These frameworks require nations to help vessels in distress. Pakistan Navy acts according to these standards. It coordinates with regional centres including those in India when necessary. The May 2026 case with MV Gautam followed this exact process.

Such operations keep sea lanes open and safe. Global trade depends on secure routes. India imports large volumes of energy through the Arabian Sea. Pakistan exports goods through the same waters. Safe navigation benefits all users. Pakistan Navy contributes to this safety through its readiness and actions.

The record spans many years. Pakistan Navy has conducted dozens of rescue and assistance missions. Some involved fire on board. Others involved engine failure or medical emergencies. In each instance the navy deployed assets. It provided aid. It documented the work through official channels.

Pakistan also works with multinational task forces in the Gulf of Aden. It joins efforts against piracy. These deployments place ships in position to help distressed vessels quickly. The combination of counter-piracy work and humanitarian response creates a strong maritime presence.

The MV Gautam operation ended with the crew safe. The vessel received enough support to restore functions. No injuries occurred. Similar outcomes appear in past cases. Crew members return home. Ships resume journeys when possible.

Pakistan Navy continues regular patrols in the Arabian Sea. It monitors traffic. It stands ready for the next call. The pattern of response remains consistent across different flags and situations. The navy operates within international rules. It delivers assistance when requested. This approach shapes its actions at sea, and showcases how Pakistan is always standing for peace and humanity.
