ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Monday strongly condemned the drone attacks carried out against Saudi Arabia a day earlier, reaffirming its unwavering support for the kingdom during heightened regional tensions.
According to Saudi authorities, air defences intercepted and destroyed three unmanned aircraft launched from Iraq on Sunday.
In a statement issued on Monday, Pakistan’s Foreign Office (FO) condemned the attacks “in the strongest possible terms,” describing them as a serious violation of Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The FO said the attacks appeared aimed at further undermining peace and stability in the region.
“The government and the people of Pakistan stand in solidarity with the government and people of Saudi Arabia during this critical time and reaffirm their full and unwavering support for the Kingdom’s security, peace and prosperity,” the statement said.
The condemnation came hours after Pakistan also denounced a drone attack on the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Sunday.
In a separate statement, the Foreign Office said any deliberate targeting of nuclear facilities constituted a grave violation of international law, including international humanitarian law, the United Nations Charter, and the principles of nuclear safety and security outlined in the Statute and resolutions of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
According to the UAE defence ministry, a drone strike caused a fire at the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant, though no injuries or radiation impact were reported.
The ministry said two other drones were “successfully” intercepted and destroyed, adding that the drones had been launched from the “western border” without providing further details.
The Abu Dhabi Media Office stated that the drone which penetrated UAE defences struck an electrical generator outside the inner perimeter of the nuclear facility.
Regional tensions have intensified since the outbreak of war following US and Israeli strikes against Iran on February 28. During the conflict, Iran has repeatedly targeted Gulf states hosting US military bases, including sites linked to civilian and energy infrastructure.
