KARACHI: Authorities have ordered a high-level inquiry after an alleged female drug peddler, identified as Anmol alias Pinky, was produced before a local court in Karachi without handcuffs and reportedly given special protocol in violation of police standard operating procedures.
According to police, the suspect was arrested during a raid in Karachi’s Garden area and was wanted in multiple criminal cases linked to narcotics trafficking. Officials claimed that cocaine, chemicals used in drug preparation, weapons, and other items worth millions of rupees were recovered from her possession.
The controversy erupted after videos surfaced on social media showing the suspect walking through court premises without handcuffs while being escorted by police personnel. The footage triggered widespread criticism and prompted senior police officials to take notice of the matter.
Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar directed authorities to conduct a transparent investigation and announced that a joint investigation team (JIT) would be formed to probe the incident. He warned that strict action would be taken against officers found responsible for violating procedures.
Meanwhile, Sindh Inspector General of Police Javed Alam Odho and Karachi Additional IG Azad Khan also sought detailed reports into the incident. Several police officials, including the SHO of Garden Police Station and investigation staff, were suspended pending inquiry.
Police said the suspect was allegedly operating an organised drug supply network across Karachi using online delivery methods and female riders. A judicial magistrate later sent the accused to jail on judicial remand while investigations continue.
