China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi has described recent military actions by the United States and Israel against Iran as “illegitimate,” during high-level talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Beijing, according to Iranian media reports cited by Al Jazeera.
Speaking at the meeting, Wang Yi said the Middle East stands at what he called a “decisive turning point,” stressing that a comprehensive ceasefire is “indispensable” for restoring regional stability. He reiterated China’s position in support of de-escalation and emphasized that direct dialogue between the involved parties remains the only viable path toward reducing tensions.
According to Iran’s semi-official Tasnim News Agency, the Chinese foreign minister reaffirmed Beijing’s willingness to support diplomatic efforts aimed at preventing further escalation and encouraging negotiations.
In response, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi expressed appreciation for China’s position, particularly its criticism of US and Israeli military actions. He stated that cooperation between Tehran and Beijing is expected to deepen further in the coming period.
Araghchi also reiterated Iran’s stated position that it seeks what he described as a “fair and comprehensive” agreement with the United States, signaling continued openness to diplomatic engagement despite heightened regional tensions.
The meeting comes amid sustained geopolitical friction in the Middle East and ongoing international efforts to prevent further escalation between Iran and Western-aligned powers.
