Olympic champion praises pregnant wife after disappointing championship result
LONDON: Three-time Olympic swimming champion Adam Peaty became emotional after missing out on a gold medal and credited his pregnant wife, Holly Ramsay, for supporting him through a difficult period.
Peaty, who used his full name Adam Ramsay-Peaty at a major championship for the first time, kissed Ramsay’s baby bump before breaking down in tears following the result.
The swimmer apologized to fans and said he was unsure what had gone wrong during the competition.
What Did Peaty Say After the Race?
Peaty said he was not afraid to show emotion and described it as an important part of personal growth.
“I’m never afraid to show emotion. It’s important because it helps create stronger people, stronger men, stronger fathers and stronger husbands,” he said.
He added that the past few months had involved difficult decisions but said he was proud to have continued competing.
“I know I deserve more, and I know I can work for it,” Peaty said.
How Did Holly Ramsay Support Peaty?
Peaty praised Ramsay, who announced last month that the couple are expecting a baby girl, saying her support remained important regardless of sporting results.
He said success as a father was not defined only by winning medals.
“My wife will always be proud of me. As a father, it doesn’t matter whether you come home with a gold medal, as long as you come home. That’s what really matters,” he said.
Peaty also referred to personal challenges outside swimming, saying he had made difficult choices in recent months to focus on his career.
The 31-year-old swimmer has won three Olympic gold medals during his career and remains one of Britain’s most successful swimmers.
