BERLIN: A US Air Force F-16 fighter jet assigned to Spangdahlem Air Base in western Germany crashed on Tuesday after a training exercise, with the pilot safely ejecting from the aircraft, the US military said.
The pilot was receiving medical treatment following the incident, while emergency response teams were deployed to the crash site. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
Four F-16s Involved in Training Exercise
Germany’s air traffic control authority said four US F-16s were participating in a training exercise when the incident occurred.
Two aircraft remained in the training area, while two others were returning to Spangdahlem Air Base. One of the returning aircraft is believed to have crashed while approaching the base, according to the authority.
The other F-16s landed safely at the US Air Force base in Ramstein.
Investigation Underway
The US military said an investigation into the cause of the crash is underway. Emergency personnel remained at the scene as authorities assessed the incident.
