ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has returned to Pakistan after concluding a private visit to Britain, where he spent more than a week in London and underwent several medical check-ups, according to sources. The Presidency confirmed his return on Thursday.
Zardari departed for Britain on August 27 for the private visit, his first trip to the country in around six years. During his stay, he did not participate in political activities or hold formal political meetings, according to sources.
Before leaving London, Zardari spoke to Geo News about his health and said he was doing well. Asked about his condition, he responded, “By the grace of Allah, I am well.” He also described his stay in London as a good experience.
What happened during Zardari’s stay in London?
Sources said the president underwent several medical examinations during his time in Britain. His visit was primarily private, with no official political engagements reported.
Pakistan’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Tipu Usman, saw Zardari off before his departure for Pakistan. The president was accompanied during his return journey by his personal physician, Dr Asim Hussain.
Zardari also met family members during his stay. PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari and Bakhtawar Bhutto-Zardari visited their father in London, with the two reportedly meeting him regularly during the visit.
Did Zardari comment on Pakistan’s political situation?
Zardari avoided commenting on domestic political developments when questioned before leaving London, including the ongoing debate over the creation of new provinces and administrative units.
His return comes amid renewed political discussion in Pakistan over proposals for changes to the country’s administrative structure. Zardari, however, did not offer a position on the issue during his departure from Britain.
The Presidency said Zardari had completed his private visit abroad and returned to Pakistan on Thursday.
