Pakistan: Security forces killed 12 militants during an intelligence-based operation in Kalat district of Balochistan, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Friday.
According to the military’s media wing, the operation was conducted on September 2 following reports of the presence of militants affiliated with what it described as Fitna al-Hindustan.
The ISPR said security forces located and monitored a militant hideout before launching an operation that resulted in the deaths of all 12 militants.
A quantity of ammunition and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) was also destroyed at the site, according to the statement.
Sanitisation Operation Underway in Area
The ISPR said sanitisation operations were continuing in the area to identify and eliminate any remaining militants.
The military said counterterrorism operations would continue against what it described as foreign-sponsored militancy.
Separately, Balochistan police foiled an attack on a police station and other government facilities in Bagh city, according to provincial authorities.
Militants Attack Police Station, Government Offices
Balochistan Chief Minister’s Adviser Shahid Rind said around 40 militants attacked the police station, a bank and the assistant commissioner’s office using heavy weapons, rockets and hand grenades.
Two policemen and three civilians were injured during the attack, Rind said.
The militants failed to seize weapons from the police station or take cash from the bank, according to the adviser.
The Bomb Disposal Unit subsequently defused an improvised explosive device planted inside the bank, he added.
