Dar tells Iran’s Araghchi dialogue remains only path to regional peace

ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar told his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi on Sunday that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only viable path to resolving disputes and achieving lasting peace, as tensions continue to escalate in the Middle East.

The two foreign ministers spoke by telephone to discuss the evolving regional security situation, the Foreign Office said in a statement.

What did Dar tell his Iranian counterpart?

According to the Foreign Office, Dar urged all parties to exercise restraint and pursue de-escalation through dialogue and diplomacy.

He reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for peaceful conflict resolution and reiterated Islamabad’s readiness to contribute to efforts aimed at promoting regional peace and stability.

The Foreign Office said both ministers agreed to remain in close contact.

What is happening in the region?

The conversation took place amid renewed military exchanges between the United States and Iran.

The latest escalation follows the collapse of a ceasefire announced in June. In recent days, both countries have exchanged missile and drone strikes, while Iran has announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz following attacks on commercial shipping.

The disruption has raised concerns over global energy supplies, as roughly one-fifth of the world’s oil trade normally passes through the strategic waterway.

    What has Iran said?

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has accused the United States of violating the ceasefire agreement, saying any future arrangement would require mutual compliance.

Separately, Iran’s chief negotiator, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, said on Sunday that Tehran would not accept unilateral agreements, reiterating Iran’s demand that any future commitments be honoured by all parties.

    What is Pakistan’s position?

Pakistan has consistently called for restraint and a diplomatic resolution to the conflict.

The Foreign Office said Islamabad remains committed to supporting initiatives that reduce tensions and encourage dialogue, stressing that diplomacy remains the only sustainable path towards regional peace and stability.
