RAWALPINDI: Pakistan’s military leadership has resolved to take all necessary measures to ensure the availability of the country’s rightful share of water, reaffirming its commitment to safeguard national interests amid ongoing tensions over the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT).

The decision was taken during the 276th Corps Commanders’ Conference held at the General Headquarters (GHQ) on Monday. The meeting was chaired by Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Asim Munir, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

What Did the Forum Say About the Indus Waters Treaty?

The forum reviewed India’s decision to place the Indus Waters Treaty in abeyance following the April 2025 attack in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), an allegation Pakistan has consistently denied.

Reaffirming the National Security Committee (NSC) directives issued on April 24, 2025, the military leadership pledged to undertake all measures necessary to ensure Pakistan receives its rightful share of water in accordance with government directives.

    What Security Issues Were Discussed?

The conference reviewed the country’s prevailing security environment and expressed satisfaction with the operational preparedness, professionalism and combat readiness of the Pakistan Armed Forces.

The military leadership also offered Fateha for members of the armed forces, law enforcement agencies and civilians who lost their lives in terrorist attacks, reaffirming that their sacrifices remain central to Pakistan’s security and resilience.

What Concerns Were Raised About Terrorism?

The forum expressed serious concern over what it described as the continued use of Afghan territory by India-backed militant groups, including Fitna al-Khawarij and Fitna al-Hindustan, to launch attacks inside Pakistan.

According to the ISPR statement, the military leadership stressed that lasting regional peace depends on preventing the use of Afghan soil by terrorist groups.

The forum reiterated that Pakistan would continue intelligence-based operations against terrorism under Operation Ghazab-lil-Haq.

What Was Said About Hybrid Warfare?

The commanders reviewed what they described as an increasing reliance on externally supported hybrid warfare and disinformation campaigns aimed at creating instability in Pakistan.

The forum condemned all forms of state-sponsored financing, facilitation and support for proxy groups, stressing that attempts to destabilize Pakistan through hybrid means would be met with a firm response.

What Was the Military’s Position on Kashmir?

The conference strongly condemned what it described as ongoing human rights violations and demographic changes in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

Reaffirming Pakistan’s diplomatic, political and moral support for the Kashmiri people, the forum stated that lasting regional peace depends on granting Kashmiris their right to self-determination in accordance with United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions.

What Directions Did the Army Chief Issue?

In his concluding remarks, Field Marshal Asim Munir directed commanders to accelerate implementation of the military’s multi-domain transformation plan in response to the evolving nature of warfare.

He also instructed commanders to maintain the highest levels of vigilance, operational readiness and professional excellence to effectively respond to conventional, sub-conventional and hybrid threats while safeguarding Pakistan’s sovereignty and national interests.
