Pakistan is making diplomatic efforts to dissuade Iran from launching strikes against Saudi Arabia, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah said, as tensions rise in the Middle East following US-Israeli attacks on Iran.
Speaking during a television programme, Sanaullah said Islamabad is working to prevent the conflict from expanding to other Gulf countries, urging Tehran not to target Saudi Arabia.
He said Pakistan had communicated with both Tehran and Riyadh in an effort to reduce tensions and encourage restraint. According to Sanaullah, Iran had sought assurances that Saudi territory would not be used for attacks against Iran, and Pakistan conveyed these assurances during diplomatic contacts. The adviser emphasized that Pakistan wants the ongoing hostilities to remain limited and not evolve into a broader regional war. He added that Islamabad is engaged in diplomatic efforts aimed at bringing the conflict to an end and stabilizing the region.
Sanaullah also noted that Pakistan maintains close security ties with Saudi Arabia, and warned that Islamabad would fulfill its responsibilities if required under bilateral defence arrangements between the two countries. The comments come as tensions across the Middle East continue to escalate after US-Israeli strikes on Iran triggered retaliatory missile and drone attacks across the Gulf region, raising fears of a wider war.
Pakistan has repeatedly stated that it supports regional stability and diplomatic solutions, while urging all parties involved in the conflict to exercise restraint.
