An Israeli airstrike targeting a hotel building in central Beirut killed at least four people and injured several others early Sunday, Lebanese officials said, in the latest escalation of regional tensions linked to the widening Middle East conflict.
The strike hit an apartment inside the Ramada hotel building in the Lebanese capital, according to Lebanon’s health ministry, which also reported that around 10 people were wounded in the attack.
Israel said the strike was aimed at Iranian commanders operating in Beirut, though officials did not immediately release further details about the identities of those targeted.
The attack marks one of the rare instances in which Israeli forces have struck the heart of Beirut, raising fears of further escalation in Lebanon as tensions continue to rise across the region.
The strike comes as the broader conflict involving Israel, Iran and allied groups expands across the Middle East, with air attacks, missile strikes and drone operations reported in multiple countries in recent days.
Lebanese authorities have launched rescue operations at the site while security forces sealed off the area. The incident has intensified concerns about civilian safety in the densely populated capital.
