The government of Pakistan has said that eye specialists will conduct further medical check-ups and treatment for jailed former prime minister Imran Khan at a specialised medical facility, amid rising concerns over his deteriorating vision.
Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said on social media platform X that detailed medical examinations by expert ophthalmologists will take place and a full report will be submitted to the Supreme Court of Pakistan. He urged the public and political groups to avoid conjecture and political rhetoric around the matter.
The announcement comes as opposition lawmakers from the alliance Tehreek Tahaffuz-e-Aiyeen Pakistan (TTAP) continued a sit-in protest for a second day in Islamabad, demanding prompt and independent medical treatment for the incarcerated PTI founder, whose health has been a flashpoint in political debate.
Imran Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan, has said family members are awaiting urgent treatment for his right eye at private medical facilities, with PTI leaders alleging prior delays in necessary care. Recent reports indicate that the former prime minister has suffered significant vision loss in his right eye.
The government’s assurance of specialist care follows a Supreme Court order directing that Imran be examined by expert eye doctors, amid disputes over the adequacy and timeliness of his medical treatment in custody.
