Light drizzle was reported across parts of Karachi on Monday, as the Pakistan Meteorological Department forecast further light to moderate rain with thunderstorms later in the day. Early morning showers were recorded in areas including Jinnah Avenue and Gulshan-e-Maymar, while much of the city remained partly cloudy.
According to the Met Office, rain-bearing clouds have developed over the northwestern parts of the city, with intermittent rainfall and thunderstorm activity expected over the next 24 hours. The minimum temperature was recorded at 23.3°C, while the maximum is likely to range between 29°C and 31°C, alongside humidity levels of around 76%.
Authorities have advised residents to exercise caution during periods of rainfall, particularly due to reduced visibility and potentially hazardous road conditions. The changing weather pattern comes as a new western disturbance is expected to affect large parts of the country until April 9, bringing widespread rain, windstorms, and thunderstorms.
Across Sindh, several districts including Sukkur, Kashmore, Ghotki, Jamshoro, Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Larkana, and Kambar Shahdadkot are likely to receive scattered rainfall with isolated heavy downpours and possible hailstorms. Other areas such as Dadu, Shaheed Benazirabad, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, and Karachi may also experience light to moderate rain and thunderstorms.
The forecast follows last week’s heavy rainfall in Karachi, which caused significant disruption, including severe waterlogging and traffic congestion. At least seven people lost their lives in rain-related incidents, most due to electrocution, while others were killed in structural accidents during the downpour.
