    Jerry Rice throws blame at JJ McCarthy and QBs Justin Jefferson played with for Vikings’ star WR’s production decline

    Minnesota Vikings quarterback JJ McCarthy endured a tough 2025 season as the team’s starting signal-caller following the departure of Sam Darnold to Super Bowl-bound Seattle Seahawks.

    MCarthy, who missed the 2024 season due to a knee injury, posted a 6-4 record in 10 starts in 2025. His inconsistency impacted Pro Bowl wide receiver Justin Jefferson, per NFL legend Jerry Rice.

    On “The Rich Eisen Show,” Rice said that Jefferson is the best wide receiver in the NFL, while taking a shot at the Vikings’ quarterback room.

    “I still got to go with Justin Jefferson,” Rice said. “Even though he hasn’t had a quarterback, this guy can do it all. He can stretch the field. He can out-jump you. He’s not afraid to go across the middle. There are some great receivers out there, but I would still put him as No. 1.”

    McCarthy registered a 72.6 passer rating with 1,632 yards, 11 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions in 10 starts for the Vikings in an injury-riddled 2025 season. Meanwhile, Jefferson registered 84 catches for 1,048 yards and scored two touchdowns in 17 games.

    The NFL season is down to its final stretch with the New England Patriots set to take on the Seattle Seahawks in the Super Bowl next month. Pro Football Hall of Famer Jerry Rice gave his pick for the marquee clash in February.

    While Rice dismissed concerns around Patriots quarterback and MVP contender Drake Maye, the San Francisco 49ers legend picked Seattle to win the Super Bowl.

    “I just don’t think… you know, with Drake Maye, there’s this little talk about his shoulder — I don’t believe that,” Rice said. “I think they deserve to be there, I just don’t think they’ll be able to shut down the Seattle offense. And also, with Seattle, it’s about that defense. So I’m picking Seattle to win the game.”

    The Patriots will take on the Seahawks in a rematch of Super Bowl XLIX at Levi’s Stadium on Feb 8.
