Ariana Grande Ends ‘Eternal Sunshine’ Tour, Plans Break From Public Life

LONDON: Ariana Grande has concluded her Eternal Sunshine tour with an emotional final performance at London’s O2 Arena, as the singer prepares to step back from public-facing appearances.

Grande, 33, thanked fans for their support during the final show, describing the tour as one of the most extraordinary experiences of her life. She has previously said she may not tour again for a “long, long” time.

Why is Ariana Grande stepping back from public life?

Grande announced last month that she would withdraw from future public-facing appearances following months of intense public scrutiny and speculation about her health and appearance.

Her decision also includes pulling out of the planned London production of Stephen Sondheim’s Sunday in the Park with George, where she was due to appear alongside her Wicked co-star Jonathan Bailey. Bailey also withdrew from the production on Tuesday.

Grande said her decision had been planned for a long time and came from a “thoughtful, empowered place”, adding that people need to set boundaries and take breaks.

How did Grande’s final London show unfold?

During the final O2 performance, Grande became emotional while singing One Last Time, a song that has taken on significance for survivors of the 2017 Manchester terror attack.

She also performed despite a foot injury that forced her to replace her trademark high heels with knee-high platform boots. A brief vocal falter during Nowhere, Nobody did not prevent her from completing the show.

Grande ended the concert with performances including Dangerous Woman and Break Free before ascending from the stage on a harness.

The 10-show London residency attracted about 200,000 fans, many of whom travelled from overseas to attend.

The Eternal Sunshine tour began in the United States in June and marked Grande’s return to live performances after a seven-year absence. She has increasingly focused on acting following her Oscar-nominated performance in Wicked.
