Pakistan: Former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chief Executive Wasim Khan has been appointed Executive Director of FIBA Asia and will formally assume the role in January 2027, the regional governing body for basketball announced.
What Will Wasim Khan’s New Role Involve?
Khan has already joined FIBA Asia as Executive Director-designate and has begun a transition process ahead of succeeding outgoing Executive Director Hagop Khajirian.
As Executive Director, Khan will oversee the development and administration of basketball across Asia, with responsibility for coordinating activities involving 44 national basketball federations affiliated with FIBA Asia.
The organization said the early transition is intended to ensure a smooth handover before Khan officially takes office next year.
What Is Khan’s Professional Background?
A British-Pakistani sports administrator, Khan most recently served as the International Cricket Council (ICC) General Manager of Cricket before stepping down earlier this year.
He previously served as Chief Executive of the Pakistan Cricket Board, where he oversaw cricket operations during his tenure.
Before joining the PCB, Khan was the Chief Executive of Leicestershire County Cricket Club and also led the UK-based youth cricket charity Chance to Shine.
His appointment marks a transition from international cricket administration to global basketball governance, making him one of the few Pakistani-origin sports executives to hold senior leadership positions across two major international sports organizations.
