United Kingdom: A £50,000 reward has been announced by Conservative politician Umer Farooq for information leading to the identification of those responsible for a series of violent attacks on his family home and business in Hounslow, West London.
According to details provided, the first incident involved bricks being thrown at the shared family residence of Farooq and fellow Conservative politician Tariq Aziz. Windows on both the upper and lower floors were smashed, causing extensive property damage. Family members, including children, were inside the home at the time and narrowly avoided injury, with debris reportedly landing close to where they were located. A vehicle parked outside the property was also destroyed in the attack.
Within 24 hours of the initial incident, Farooq’s business premises—an airline ticketing office serving customers traveling to Pakistan, the Middle East, and other international destinations—was targeted in a separate attack. CCTV footage reportedly shows a black car stopping outside the office, after which a masked individual exits the vehicle, pours petrol near the entrance and a parked car, and ignites a fire before fleeing the scene. The resulting blaze caused severe damage to the front of the building. Emergency services arrived within approximately 15 minutes and managed to contain the fire before it spread further.
Farooq described the incidents as coordinated and “planned and professional,” alleging that the attackers used a stolen vehicle. He also said both his personal safety and that of his family have been put at risk, and criticised local police for what he described as insufficient protection following earlier threats.
The attacks come amid heightened political tensions in the borough of Hounslow following recent local council elections, which saw Labour lose a significant number of seats across the UK, including around 20 in the area, although it retained control of the council. The area has a large Pakistani and South Asian community, and political campaigning by multiple parties had intensified in recent months.
Some Conservative supporters have suggested that local political rivalry contributed to a climate of hostility, though no public evidence has been presented to substantiate claims linking any political party or individuals to the attacks. The local Labour Party has denied any involvement.
Local community leader Nisar Malik condemned the violence, stating that political competition should not translate into intimidation or attacks on families, and urged all parties to allow law enforcement to complete its investigation.
Police confirmed that an investigation is ongoing and that forensic and CCTV evidence has been collected. No arrests have been announced so far.
