RAWALPINi: Pakistan’s military on Sunday issued a strong response to remarks by Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, warning that any attempt to target Pakistan could trigger consequences extending beyond South Asia and would not remain strategically or politically manageable for India.
In a statement released from Rawalpindi, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) rejected General Dwivedi’s reported remarks made in India, in which he said that “Pakistan should decide if it desired to be part of geography and history.”
The ISPR said Pakistan was a globally recognised sovereign state, a declared nuclear power, and an established part of South Asia’s geography and history. The military’s media wing added that the Indian leadership had yet to reconcile with Pakistan’s existence despite decades of regional coexistence.
According to the statement, the remarks reflected what it described as a “hubristic” and “jingoistic” mindset that had repeatedly contributed to tensions and crises in South Asia.
The ISPR said threats regarding the elimination of a sovereign nuclear state from “geography” did not amount to strategic signalling and instead represented dangerous escalation rhetoric.
The statement further warned that any attempt at “geographic obliteration” would have consequences that would be “mutual and comprehensive,” adding that responsible nuclear states should exercise restraint and strategic maturity.
Pakistan’s military also accused New Delhi of pursuing aggressive regional policies and alleged that India had a documented record of involvement in regional instability, transnational operations, and disinformation campaigns.
According to the ISPR, India’s current posture reflected frustration over what Pakistan described as New Delhi’s inability to undermine Pakistan’s security position during recent tensions referred to by Islamabad as “Marka-e-Haq.”
The military warned against any actions that could push South Asia toward another military crisis or conflict, saying such developments would carry serious consequences for regional stability and beyond.
The statement concluded by urging India to pursue peaceful coexistence and acknowledge Pakistan’s significance and role in the region.
